The top panel is based on the average over all frequency bands, for each subject. Bars represent the average seizure frequency over all subjects within each group in units of seizures per hour. Corresponding pairs of seizure rates for patients and controls were compared using the Wilcoxon rank sum test, with normal approximation, according to test hypothesis that patients have higher seizure rates than controls. Statistically significant differences are marked with a single asterisk (p < 0.05) or a pair of asterisks (p < 0.01). Rates are computed using simulations with β = α = 0.1.
