These occur at the intersection (green dots) of \(\mathcal{G}(\nu, \omega)=0\) (red curve) and \(\mathcal{H}(\nu, \omega)=0\) (blue curve) where \(\mathcal{G}\) is the real part of \({\mathcal{E}}\) whereas \(\mathcal{H}\) is the imaginary part. Here we see a complex conjugate pair of eigenvalues with positive real part, so that the periodic wave is unstable. Parameters as in Fig. 5
