For a pure diffusion process, we correctly calculate the FP amplitude distribution \(Q_{A}\) and FP detection probability \(\varGamma _{A}\). (A) After applying a threshold to \(\Delta X^{\mathrm{diff}}(t)\), we obtain a pool of FPs with a range of durations and amplitudes. From the latter we measure \(Q_{C}\) (blue histogram). We correctly calculate this distribution as \(\sum_{i}Q_{i}\), where \(Q_{i}\) is defined in Eq. (26).
