(ii) Corresponding mesoscopic modulation factor R predicted by the first- and second-order MF (blue and red lines respectively) compared to the microscopic simulation (black line). Note that at 10 Hz the second-order MF corrects the overestimation in the mean of the first-order MF and reproduces finite-size fluctuations of amplitude similar to that of the population average.
