The encoding of temporal stimuli by a neural circuit modeling an ensemble of complex cells. (A) The ith neuron in the model processes the input \(u_{1}(t)\) by two parallel linear filters with impulse responses \(g^{i1}_{1}(t)\) and \(g^{i2}_{1}(t)\), respectively, followed by squaring.
