The choice of \(\theta ^{*}\) is based on comparing the statistics of positive and negative increments. We show here how this strategy is applied to the two jump-diffusion validation cases presented in Sect. 3.2. (A) The presence of true jumps allows the PDF of positive increments (blue histogram) to be differentiated from that of negative increments (red histogram) above a certain threshold (dashed line).
